iL Corvo presents Stachebot 2086, the ultimate robot t-shirt
Mickey Corvo was making love to a woman at a Canary Islands resort
when inspiration seized him. Desmaliona,
he began, was sculpted beautifully, endowed with wondrous eyes, an
indefatigable spirit . . . also a slight mustache. The night before we had watched the Terminator. Consequently, my mind was imbued with the image of
a mustachioed robot.
Enter
'Stachebot.
Consumed by his vision rather than matters of love, Mickey Corvo and Desmaliona parted on bad terms. Little did Mickey realize, his plight was nearly as old as civilization itself. Not love and loss. Booooring! We're talking robots. Long before Knight Rider's KITT, and Ghost in the Shell, there were the golden robots of Hephaestus, not to mention the ancient machines of Yan Shi. According to the theory of technological singularity, machines will use their existing AI to augment themselves in ways currently unimaginable. In Spielberg's AI, a young Haley Joel Osment plays a robo-boy capable of feeling human emotion. Experts believe fictional accounts like this aren't far off. Projections have PCs possessing the same processing power of a human brain by 2029. If machines eventually think, feel and look like humans, what's next? Legislation? Robot Activism? The Institute for the Future is currently considering the issue of robot rights
. Ask Mickey Corvo what he considers the next leap for robo-kind and he'll proclaim: big thick mustaches cut and styled with robotic precision. When? 2086, he reckons.
'Stachebot 2086 is a technological construct from the distant future, the tomorrow of robot t-shirts today. It's an iL Corvo independent tee printed on Alternative. One day your afro-wearing Maytag will instinctively know to wash the indie tee inside-out on cold and tumble dry low. For now, you're in charge.
